Cross the bridge over the Franschhoek River, tucked away between a forest of trees and discover the perfect wedding venue amongst the vines… Rickety Bridge is perched on the slopes of the Franschhoek mountains with sweeping views of the valley.
The charming 19th-century Cape Dutch setting offers a range of picturesque onsite ceremony and reception options. The vineyard blends perfectly into an almost picturesque panorama, located between the Dassenberg Mountain and the Franschhoek River
.Rickety Bridge is a winery with a long tradition. With a history going back to 1797, the estate and its legacy have been passed on to its current owner Duncan Spence, who has owned the estate since 2000.
This historic estate was originally part of the great La Provence farm given to French Huguenot farmers in 1694. Over the years the property was divided and the portion which is now Rickety Bridge was granted to Paulina De Villiers, one of the first female landowners in South Africa, in 1797.
The idyllic setting of the wine estate provides stunning backdrops for your big day and our all-inclusive packages make planning easy. The most popular option is a ceremony on the beautiful lawn in front of the 17th-century Manor House, followed by a reception under the stars. An elegant marquee can also be erected and filled with fairy lights, leading to a magical feeling.
Should the weather not play along, we offer a beautiful refurbished old barrel room that can comfortably seat up to 100 guests, with the dancefloor on the adjacent terrace.
The terrace is a great option in all weather conditions, still allowing a 180-degree view of the mountains, even when the glass windows are closed and the overhead heaters are keeping your guests warm.
We offer accommodation for six guests in the 5-star Rickety Bridge Manor House situated next to the venue and adjacent to the lawn with magnificent mountain and vineyard views in three luxury suites.
There is accommodation for a further 20 guests at our four-star sister accommodation, Basse Provence Guest House, only 800m away.
The 1855 thatched Basse Provence Manor House and neighbouring Country House have been completely refurbished, blending traditional heritage with stylish modern luxury. Basse Provence offers a Manor House with one luxury room and a family loft, a Country House with 5 en-suite luxury rooms, and one two-bedroom cottage, with views of a vine-green valley and ageless mountains.
